Seeing December Through the eyes of the Poinsettia

As December begins, I’ve been reflecting on how November wrapped itself up for me, with two beautiful 90th birthday celebrations honouring stories of wisdom that only time can carve, along with moments of joy woven through dance, connection, and partnership, and my daughter’s dance company celebrated 15yrs in the business with a samba stage show, again there was stories of wisdom with reflection on history of Brazilian music and dance.

The opening to December was with my wedding anniversary of 30 years, this week has felt like a tapestry of past, present and future gently woven together.

If this new month had a flower, I would have to choose the Poinsettia.

It’s a bloom I tend to share around Christmas, and is one of purpose, direction, and the kind of quiet inspiration that guides you back to your path when you drift.

It's meaning felt especially alive for me this week, from witnessing the wisdom of those turning 90, to seeing people proudly honour how long they’ve held their businesses, to watching the dedication behind craft, creativity, and long-term partnerships. It feels like the perfect symbol for this season of my life, especially as I still feel I'm navigating a kind of retirement mode with still needing rest due to both what life dealt me recently.

The Poinsettia is a wonderful flower to hold close at this time of year as we begin thinking about entering a new year and shaping our intentions. When you drift from your path, the energy of the Poinsettia helps gently guide you back to your mission but with purpose.

It reminds you to:-

Remember your purpose, and stay close to what matters.

Move in its direction with quiet courage, trusting the gentle pull of the path that calls you.

Keep taking the next small step forward.

Remember to celebrate yourself, always - you’re becoming more than you know.

It feels right for this season of my life and perhaps for yours too as the end of the year approaches with anticipation of what the coming year may bring.

A gentle reflection for you:

Which flower mirrors the closing of your November and the opening of your December?

Is is a bloom of rest, hope, quiet joy or something still unfurling?

Take a moment to breathe into the month, the season, and the energy that's arriving.
